No doubt that in 2013 the biggest mixtape to drop was Nip Hussle's "Crenshaw". If not only for the marketing ploy he put behind it (selling copies for $100) but Jay-Z even copped 100 to boot. Sell $10,000 worth of mixtapes to Jay-Z and yeah, you deserve Number 1 this year. Salute Nippsey!

This artist has revamped and rebranded himself with his Hurricane Gang Music Group and looks to be a force in the coming year. He started off 2013 by becoming a VEVO sponsored artist and has been dropping many visuals getting his fan base familiar with the movement. He also performed in the SXSW, the largest hip hop gathering in the country. He also runs community movements such as HipHop4Thecity and the MyCityMovement. Unfortunately, things did not work out as planned but he bounced back nicely forming the #ESGN movement and branching out his career and brand on his own. They released the critically acclaimed CD #ESGN with part 2 coming soon in 2014. He also has projects in the works with Mad Lib, Producer Ski Beatz (Jay Z) and many more avenues (clothing line, etc.) to move him forward in the coming year. She signed to a DV8 Records a label out of Atlanta, Ga and with her producer Ikey Boy - they are poised and in position to break out in 2014. S/O to Yoson Tala and Tala Nation up in the Northwest corner of Indiana. He has been very active on the scene and musically he's been producing so of the state's best sound. Yoson Tala had a break out moment last year when he began appearing on the Bad Girls Club Episode 10. As he began to show up on the show more regularly, his fan base of followers began to grow. Since then, he has released videos on Worldstarhiphop.com, collab'ed with artists such as Stuey Rock, Willie Bobo, producer Paris Beuller and more. He is also traveling around in LA, Miami, and other cities moving his brand and building his network. Check him out and know that in 2014 Yoson Tala is one to watch from Indiana. S/O to the female side of things in our state and one of the BEST and most talented lyricists period in Nukki Andrews. Now in Atlanta, GA by way of Gary, IN Nukki has been hard work on building a larger fan base and breaking into the industry in a powerful way. She has solid messages in her songs and I like to look at her as the "Anti-Nikki" if you will, which is why I love her name "Nukki". She has mixtapes with the world famous DJ Swamp Izzo on LiveMixtapes, videos on Worldstarhiphop.com, and a banger with Chicago queen Shawnna named "I'm On That". She has moved her headquarters but here in Indiana we still love Nukki Andrews and are rooting for her success, that is why she is one of Indiana's Top 10 Artists to Watch in 2014. S/O to Sirius Blvck, I was put on to his movement by accident and a post on a social network. He is part of the "Ghost Town Collective" a group of "hipsters" who are true hip hop in nature and sonically. Indiana is very diverse in terms of the types of artists in the state and I think that Sirius displays this versatility. I went and listened to 1 song from this artist and immediately went to find more music. People want to know more about artists like this and I think he is one of the best from his genre in the state. My New York, NY Music Business Visit (S.I.N. Awards and more)

Went and visited New York City a couple weeks ago and got to hear a lot of new records and meet a lot of new industry people. I attended the S.I.N. Awards which dutifully announced "If the ceiling were to fall on this event, the music business would cease to exist. Yes, everyone from pretty much every radio station Radio One and Clear Channel....every label Interscope, Atlantic, RCA, were all in attendance. Also got to check some hot new music from new acts like Tinashae and the A$AP Mob, Tracy T, and more. Also ate dinner and had very good conversations with key industry players about the future of the business and what's NEXT. Enjoy the pictures and footage.

S/O to Skypp, who this year changed his name from Lil' Skypp and also his style and brand. Skypp is an artist hailing from Indianapolis, IN but has tailored his music to have an international appeal. He has been working tirelessly doing shows and pushing his brand in many Southeastern and Midwestern markets. Coming at the top of the year, I hear that he is also doing a record with a popular pop artist from England, broadening his international appeal even more. He also does Skypp Saturdays for his fans and has been consistent with this brand for over 80 episodes (weekends in a row). This guy spits uplifting and thought provoking bars and is definitely positioning himself to be a factor in 2014. Follow him @Skypp317 on twitter.

He is a Gary, IN legend and originally began making music as The "MCGz", selling more than 20,000 records locally and becoming one of Indiana's highest selling groups on record. He is now down with Freddie Gibb's #ESGN camp and looking to break out nationally with one of hip hop's most polarizing figures. They recently dropped the "ESGN" project with Hit's "Have You Seen Her" as one of the lead songs and visuals from the project. Pay attention.

"Let's say you never heard of Lee'a Ro. I have to shake my head, because you don't know what you're missing. This woman is a talent that cannot be measured or categorized. Just the way we like it. After meeting Lee'a at the Midwest Leak Awards some time ago & hearing her album, I really wanted to work with her. So, I reached out to Stacia Murphy to make the connect and invited them to the studio. Now, any artist who visits our studio has to undergo very intense scrutiny from Warren because he doesn't want to waste his time. Lee'a Ro impressed us with that visit in a manner that defies description. We received the music from SoulCineMatik. He wasn't sure about the track at first, if I recall. Warren & I started tripping because we could NOT believe what we were hearing. We played it for Lee'a. She loved it. She took the record & wrote to it. She sang it. We were overjoyed. After we captured her performance, we started adding more production to it to make it sound even bigger. What a joy that was.

In fact, that's my youngest brother Rogue Nightson playing the prologue (read intro). We knew the song needed an emcee. Big Dave came in and did this "rain man" thing on the song! He went into the booth with no notepad and pieced his verse together with no lights on until it was RIGHT! This song was a labor of love. Lee'a Ro and Big Dave are the types of artists that we look forward to working with again and again and again. Enjoy."

It's 11/11/2013 and it's been a year since one of Indianapolis, IN most promising young talents, "Lil Bango" aka Brandon McMitchell was taken from us. His MRC brothers put together his music (most of it un released) in his memory. He was a good dude, and someone who I worked with closely as well. He will be missed and let his memory live on forever. Long Live Bango.

It's really sad the war in Chicago between the GD's and BD's is claiming young talent like this dude left and right. He was up NEXT and I wish the violence would cease.
