Hip-Hop Manager Chris Lighty Dead At 44

Sad. He was a hip hop legend in the business world.

Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty died Thursday morning after he shot himself after an argument with his estranged wife at his Bronx apartment, sources told the Daily News. Lighty, 44 stepped outside his South Riverdale apartment about 11:30 a.m., after a spat with his wife, Veronica, police sources said. Suddenly, a gun shot was heard and Lighty was found lying faceup with a 9-mm. pistol next to his body, sources said. Law enforcement sources said Lighty — whose wife filed for divorce last year — may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS.

Lighty, founder of Violator Management, merged with another talent company to form Primary Violator around the time of his divorce.

Musicians began Tweeting about Lighty soon after news of his death spread. “R.I.P CHRIS LIGHTY THE MAN THAT SAVED MY LIFE!!!” Bronx rapper Fat Joe posted on Twitter. “I Would Be Nothing Without YOU!!! My Kids Appreciate YOU God Bless Chris Lighty.”

The powerhouse behind Violater Records and management guided the careers of hip-hop heavyweights and stars such as Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes,Q-Tip, Missy Elliott, Fantasia, Mýa, Diggy Simmons, Cormega, Ja Rule, Mobb Deep, LL Cool J, Nas, and more. Jeff Robinson, who was close to Lighty, confirmed the tragic news on Twitter. Jeff Robinson

In an era when label CEO's drop albums, romance pop-stars and parlay their mogul-dom into multiple endorsement deals, Chris Lighty, CEO of Violator Management, is a bit of an anomaly. Since 1989, his company has been stealthily creating strategic multi-million dollar opportunities for its artists' - among them 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, LL Cool J, Diddy, and Soulja Boy - in the areas of film, television, advertising, sports and finance. (Please Listen To My Demo) With little details coming in on this incident, we will keep Chris' family and friends in our prayers.

Syphilis-Positive Porn Performer Mr. Marcus Apologizes, Admits to Altered Test

SMH.

LOS ANGELES — Adult performer Mr. Marcus told XBIZ Tuesday that he is “very sorry” for altering his STI test result that showed he tested positive for syphilis, saying he only worked with the altered test because his doctor assured him that he would not be contagious after taking a shot of penicillin and waiting at least 10 days before any sexual activity.

In an emotional interview that at one point brought the 18-year veteran star to tears, Mr. Marcus admitted that he made “mistakes” in recent weeks, but that he never once felt he was endangering anyone else by performing three times between July 24 and Aug. 8.

“I have to live with this, no one else does,” Mr. Marcus said. “I’m sorry. I’m very sorry. I did not think that this would come out like this. I’m sorry. All I can do is try to make some good happen. That’s it. I can do that. I can stand up. I’ve been taking a lot of shit. I can take it.”

Mr. Marcus made his first comments to the media at his San Fernando Valley office while accompanied by Free Speech Coalition Executive Director Diane Duke and FSC board member Christian Mann, who is also general manager of Evil Angel Productions. Both Duke and Mann, who praised Mr. Marcus’ “courage” for coming forward publicly, have been assisting the performer since Saturday, Aug. 18, when a genealogy, or record, of who he has worked with both after and before first testing positive was initiated by FSC’s Adult Production Health & Safety Services (APHSS).

Insane Clown Posse Suing FBI For Classifying Juggalos As A Gang

Very surprised this is not getting more media attention in Main stream hip hop. This case is VERY important to the culture as a whole because whether people know it or not - there is a REAL effort by the FBI to classify music entertainment companies as a whole as Gangs and unlawfully prosecute them. Read up.

Horrorcore hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse has declared that they would be suing the FBI for classifying their devoted fanbase--known as "Juggalos"--as a gang in the 2011 National Gang Assessment.

Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope made the announcement at the 2012 Gathering of the Juggalos on August 9, Spin reports.

The rappers said they would go through with the lawsuit ""no matter what it costs or what it takes," eliciting cheering, cheers of "Family," and even some crying.

The "Juggalos" are best known for their elaborate, clownish make-up and annual "Gathering of the Juggalos" celebration.

The FBI maintains, however, that subsets of the Juggalos "exhibit gang-like behavior and engage in criminal activity in violence," according to the 2011 report.

The FBI classifies the Juggalos as a "loosely-organized hybrid gang."

The report defines a hybrid gang as being a "non-traditional gang with multiple affiliations," and notes that most crimes committed by Juggalos "involve simple assault, personal drug use and possession, petty theft, and vandalism."

While "criminal Juggalo sub-sets" have been identified in 21 states, Juggalos are only formally recognized as a gang in four states, according to the report.

Almost a year later, ICP is fighting back against the classification.

"Let's get this straight, a Juggalo is not a gang member," Violent J, one member of the ICP duo, told Vice.

Violent J went on to explain how the classification could seriously harm individual fans. He offered the hypothetical example of a fan who simply got an ICP-related tattoo many years ago.

If such a fan were to get picked up for a minor offense like a speeding ticket, "he's in the gang file… Suddenly, it ain't just somebody who fucked up, it's a gang member that fucked up, and they're getting a heavier sentence."

Some Juggalos have already suffered. Arizona man Shawn Wolf says his appreciation of ICP cost him custody of his son, according to Spin.

"The state of California flew to my house [to see if I was fit], and it's all ICP-decked out," Wolf said. "Just because of that, I was kind of screwed."

Violent J added that the lawsuit wasn't just for their fans, but also for the employees of Psychopathic Records, the independent record label founded by ICP.

"Some of these people... have been working here for 20 years," he said. "That's their career now. They have kids, and wives, and husbands. Next thing you know, they're working for a gang."

ICP and Psychopathic Records have launched the website Juggalos Fight Back in order to help build their case against the FBI.
